STRUFC Juniors In Action

Sheffield Tigers have a very active Junior/Mini section with teams from Under 7’s to Under 17’s.

We train and play on Sunday mornings at the Club, usually starting at 10:30 am. For away matches it is usual to meet at the Club between 09:00-09:30 am depending on venue.

We have both boys and girls participating in mixed teams from U7 to U11 but only boys are allowed from U12 onwards. Tag rugby is played at U7 & U8s with limited contact starting at U9s. From U13 onwards, full pitch 15-a-side rugby is played with special emphasis placed on the safety of contested scrums and lineouts.
The RFU requires that the safety and well’being of players is paramount and has issued a list of safety features especially for Mini/Junior rugby. Amongst these are that gum shields are compulsory at all ages, qualified first aiders must be present and a minimum number of coaches must be qualified.

Claire & Sue Bradshaw with their Trophies
 presented by Nigel Dakin (President)

Junior Clubperson of the Year went to Claire Bradshaw for her coaching and managing of the U7’s & U8’s as well as her all round involvement in the club, while Sue Bradshaw was awarded the Senior Clubperson of the Year, taking over from a certain Chris Souster, for her tremendous work for both senior and junior arms of the club and her role on the committees of both sections.
Not to be outdone Brad Bradshaw received a Volunteers certificate from the RFU in recognition of his work at the club, again at all levels and in both junior and senior sections.

Nigel Dakin (President) kindly came up especially for the awards and Richard Senior (Director of Rugby) superbly ran what was an extremely successful and enjoyable evening for all concerned. Special thanks go as well to Tina and her staff from the Devonshire Arms for the wonderful catering and table service.
