34th Tigger Tor Fell Race

Monday 28th January 2019

The Tigger Tor Fell race was started by Tigers member, Don Longley, 34 years ago  and he is still involved with it to this day. It is run in conjunction with Totley AC running club ( http://www.totleyac.org.uk/ ).

This race (so named as the route starts from Sheffield Tigers RUFC and includes an ascent of Higger Tor) is a distance of approximately 9.7 miles with total climb of around 1,500 feet and mostly off road fell running.  This years race took place on sunday 27th January 2019 with a 10am start.

Tigers supplied 12 race marshals (as they usually do) and clubhouse, bar, food and changing facilities. Totley AC supplied the marshals out on the fell whilst Tigers marshals managed car parking and road check points. After the race, we had loads of good comments about the excellent facilities and organisation. Many runners are already keen to come back next year.

On a cold but dry morning, from the 400 runners who entered (on-line only),  382 turned up and ran, 3 failed to finish and 0 were disqualified. There were no serious injuries and nobody got lost.

Below are a few race statistics:

Winner was Steve Franklin - Totley AC in 1:11:50.6
First female was Bethan Gay - Dark  Peak FR  in 1:28:11.9
Last runner home was in the MSen Category in 2:34:43.3
